Meet the Bloggers

A native of the Washington DC metro area, Rev. Nate Craddock is a pastor and church planter in northern Virginia. He is the founder of Mercy Way, a new catholic community in Woodbridge. For his day job, Nate is a mental health professional with United Methodist Family Services, working as a crisis intervention counselor for teenagers in Centreville, VA.

Nate graduated with his M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary in 2013. He holds a B.A. in music composition from Asbury University and has completed the coursework for his M.A. in historical musicology at the University of Kentucky. His thesis is on the semiotics of religious conversion in the music of the gay Catholic composer Francis Poulenc. 

Nate is the proud single gay dad of a fabulous little girl, Lucy. Aside from writing, Nate enjoys baking bread, hiking, strength training, singing Brahms lieder, and partaking of the Internet's unyielding bounty of funny cat pictures. The fact that Pentecost is occurring on the same weekend as DC Capital Pride, one of the largest Pride events on the East coast, isn’t lost on me.

Pentecost is a weird spoke in the wheel of the year, but it’s an amazing one all the same.

As the Orthodox hymn for the feast goes, "Blessed art Thou, Christ our God, Who didst make the fishermen wise by sending down upon them the Holy Spirit, and through them didst draw the world into Thy net. Lover of humanity, glory to Thee."

I am reminded several times a week that both a sizeable and vocal portion of the Christian world considers the coexistence of homosexuality and Christianity within the same person to be at best an interesting conversation piece, and at worst, an aberrant abomination.
